My August Chicago eats

I went to Chicago for two days and tried as much food as my body would allow. So I thought to share my thoughts, as someone who is obsessed with food and is always thinking about their next meal.

Parlor Pizza Bar – River North

Fried mozzarella, kale cobb salad, Hot Chix pizza

Rating: 6.8/10

Honestly… probably the worst of everything I ate that weekend. The fried mozzarella was good, but it was a heavy start. I thought the pickled vegetables on top were a bright contrast and made the flavors more interesting. However, nothing to write home about.

The Cobb salad was pretty good. I liked how it broke the heaviness of the meal a bit. The pizza, however, was just too much. There were dill pickles, ranch, Nashville hot chicken, etc. It sounds delicious to start, but picture eating four slices of that, yeah, no…

Overall, the vibes at the restaurant are very relaxed with plenty of outdoor seating (which is what lured us into this spot in the first place). The only scenario I could see myself coming back would be if I were nearby, and just needed a quick bite while out. Even then, you can still find better places close by.

Nonnina – River North

Eggplant parmigiana sandwich with parmesan fries

Rating: 8/10

I came here around noon just for a quick bite, and it was perfect and exactly what I wanted. Nonnina is an Italian restaurant with one hell of a deal during their lunch hours. They have a $25 Prixe Fixe menu that gives you an appetizer, pasta, and dessert, from selected items. I however was not that ambitious that day so I got the eggplant parmesan sandwich. With the $14 sandwich however, I got to pick either a side of fries, a salad or soup of my choosing which I think, is still a pretty good deal.

I mean, just look at how thin the eggplant is, and how condensed the sandwich is. Amazing bread-to-filling ratio. Also, it’s not too big, and you can get the perfect bite because of it. Now the fries, were just fries. I would probably get the ceasar salad as a side next time.

They have outdoor seating, which if you can’t tell, I’m a big fan of. The staff was super friendly too. They also have great Aperol spritzes. I will be back because I am now dying to try their pastas.

Doc B’s Restaurant – River North

Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Marinated Chicken Kebabs

Rating: 7.8/10

I’m not sure if I was starving or if the marinated chicken kebabs were really that good, but they were sooo good. The chicken was so juicy and the main star of the show for me. I also thought that the cucumber feta salad with the rice and tzatziki paired so well with the chicken kebab. It was refreshing and light but also still filling. Divine.

The buttermilk fried chicken was also pretty good, but I would say standard. The vibes were nice as well. Nice for a date or a nicer girls dinner. I came here on a whim, and I was pleased with the result.

Overall..

I basically ate out every meal there, and I still didn’t get to eat everywhere I wanted. Apologies for all the restaurants being in River North. I would have loved to go to other areas, but my hotel was in the area, and it was convenient. I need to go back soon so I can try more places in different areas.

Til then, I will be researching more restaurants for my never-ending list.
